ASTWOOD project
A Strategy for the sustainable use of wood and its implementation as base for legislative measures on regional level. Main purpose of the project was to develop a strategy development guide which helps public administrations increase the use of locally available biomass resources for producing wood chips and pellets for domestic heating. The consortium created an implementation model which is transferable to any other European region taking into account policy and legal initiatives, and additional promotional measures, such as demonstration projects, education, and dissemination.
ASTWOOD included the following steps:
- Market Study on the availability of wood as a raw material in the three regions and current or potential buyers or consumers Based on models in other regions, development of a concept model, a strategy paper and an implementation model
- Creation of the strategy development guide and implementation through pilot initiatives in the three regions
- Dissemination including visits to the pilot units
