Kick-off Meeting of the project CirBioWaste

The project CirBioWaste (Fostering innovative and sustainable bio-waste management and circular bio-economy in the Mediterranean area) officially kicked off on the 13th of June 2025. The Kick-off meeting took place online, and all project partners, representing the 5 participating countries (Spain, Italy, Portugal, Greece, and Bulgaria), participated actively.

The meeting started with partner organizations presenting themselves. During the meeting, the following objectives were discussed: Project management, Financial management, Monitoring project progress, Internal management, Communication & branding guidelines, and Resources.

The Kick-off meeting concluded with a discussion of the upcoming in-person events of the project.

The main goal of the CirBioWaste project is to support the improvement of environmental resilience and foster the transition to an efficient and circular bioeconomy in the MED area. The project promotes the implementation of sustainable bio-waste management to reduce environmental impact and create social and economic benefits in the EU MED area.

CirBioWaste aims at tackling the challenges, identified across partner experience and different EU projects, on the fulfilment of the obligation of member states to separately collect and recycle the municipal biowaste and meet the EU-related targets. The project will reach this goal by supporting the public administrations in the EU MED area in the implementation of existing innovative bio-waste management solutions adapted to their local context.

The activities of the project are related to fostering awareness to ensure proper quality of the bio-waste separated at source and proper use of the recycled products.

The project is co-funded by the Interreg Euro-MED Programme and has a duration of 27 months, from April 2025 to June 2027.
