Sixth Stakeholders Meeting in Bulgaria under the DETOCS Project

On February 25, 2026, the sixth stakeholder meeting under the DETOCS project – „DEcarbonising the TOurism Industry Post Covid-19 Support“, funded by the Interreg Europe programme, was held at Hall “Aheloy” in Grand Hotel and SPA “Primorets” in Burgas. The meeting took place as part of the Second Tourism Awards of Burgas.

The event brought together representatives of various professional organizations and stakeholders in the tourism sector, including hoteliers, cultural institutions, restaurant and hospitality businesses, and operators of tourist attractions. Among the official guests were the Mayor of Burgas Municipality, the Regional Governor of Burgas, deputy mayors responsible for key sectors, municipal councillors, representatives of the municipal administration, and the Municipal Enterprise “Tourism.” The project’s technical partner – the Regional Energy Agency of Pazardzhik (REAP) – participated online.

The main objective of the meeting was to strengthen the long-standing partnership between the Municipality and all stakeholders contributing to the development of the local tourism ecosystem. Within this framework, participants were presented with the upcoming update of the strategic document “Strategy for Sustainable Tourism Development in Burgas Municipality, 2022–2030.” The update, currently in progress and expected to be completed by May 2026, will introduce new measures aimed at improving energy efficiency and promoting sustainable practices in the tourism sector.

Stakeholders had the opportunity to discuss the planned measures, provide feedback, and contribute proposals shaping the renewed strategic vision. The discussion also encouraged the identification of new initiatives supporting the decarbonisation of tourism infrastructure, the use of renewable energy sources, and the strengthening of Burgas’ position as a green and innovative tourism destination.

The meeting highlighted the importance of continuous dialogue between local authorities, businesses, and civil society in achieving climate neutrality goals and ensuring the long-term resilience and competitiveness of the tourism sector.
