Exchange of Experience Event in Campobasso, Italy within the frame of the DETOCS project
On 21-22 May 2025, the project consortium and stakeholders of the Interreg Europe DETOCS – DEcarbonising the TOurism Industry Post Covid-19 Support project gathered at the Municipality of Campobasso, Region of Molise, in Italy, for the 5th Interregional Exchange of Experience Event & Steering Group Meeting. Representatives from the eight partner regions convened to exchange best practices, discuss progress, and explore collaborative actions for decarbonising the tourism sector. The event featured insightful presentations on regional success stories, highlighting innovative approaches to energy efficiency in tourism. All participating DETOCS regions presented their policy instruments and shared strategies for reducing carbon footprints, offering valuable lessons for replication across different contexts. A policy improvement workshop followed on the topic of “From Shared Challenges to Shared Solutions”. The workshop brought together project partners and regional stakeholders to explore recurring barriers and practical responses to energy efficiency and decarbonisation in tourism. Three thematic breakout groups addressed different but interrelated challenges: contextual constraints, stakeholder engagement, governance alignment, and capacity building.
Study visits provided participants with a first-hand look at sustainable tourism practices in the region o Molise, Italy. Several touristic sites together with an energy community initiative implementing energy-saving and renewable energy sources solutions and circular economy principles have been showcased to partners and stakeholders. The event concluded with a Steering Group Meeting, where partners reviewed project milestones and discussed future collaborative outputs, including the DETOCS thematic guidebook on sustainable tourism strategies (coming soon!).
By fostering knowledge exchange and cross-regional cooperation, the 5th Exchange of Experience Event strengthened the DETOCS project’s mission to support the tourism sector’s green transition.
